1) Choose a program. It's always best to know your goals and options, so you should start by reflecting on your personal and academic objectives to decide which of our programs will best suit you.
2) Start your online application. Search online to find the program you are interested in and click on the "Apply Now" button.
3) Meet with your OIP regional advisor. Once you have narrowed your choice, you will be required to make an advising appointment in our Resource Center. You will receive your study proposal during your advising appointment.
4) Get your study proposal signed by your dean/major/minor/certifcate departments.
5) Hand in all materials by the appropriate deadline. On the applicant homepage of your online application, you will see the list of materials you will need to complete by the deadline.
Back-up Sites and Split-Year Applications
How to Apply to a Back-up Site:
Please note that if you are accepted to your first choice, your back-up application will not be considered.After nominations are posted, your back-up application will be withdrawn from our system.
Students choosing to apply for back-up programs must follow the same general procedures as with the regular application.
How to Apply for a Split Year Abroad:
Visa timelines and regulations may preclude certain split year combinations. Students should discuss the feasibility of their intentions with the OS advisors for BOTH programs before submitting application materials.
Please note that there is also an additional essay required for all students applying for a split year abroad explaining the academic rational of their proposed combination of sites.
Students choosing to apply for a split year abroad must complete two separate program applications, one for each site.The application procedure will be the same for both sites.
All nomination decisions for semester and full-year study abroad programs are made by the Georgetown University Overseas Studies Selection Committee.
