About the Program

Georgetown University in Salamanca’s Intensive Language Program (ILP) is based at Cursos Internacionales, an organization affiliated with the Universidad de Salamanca. The ILP is perfect for students who are looking to improve their language skills in an immersive setting. Students who have completed Advanced Spanish II are not eligible for the ILP.

Location

Salamanca is located 130 miles northwest of Madrid with a population of 180,000. This city is rich in history, culture, and tradition. There is an abundance of historic monuments such as the Puente Romano, the Plateresque University façade, the Roman Old Cathedral, and the Gothic New Cathedral. Salamanca is well known for its prestigious university and its stimulating intellectual and cultural environment.

Academic Calendar

  • Fall: late August to mid-December
  • Spring: late February to mid-June

Fields of Study

Language of instruction is Spanish.

Fields of study include: Spanish (including limited language and culture electives)

Courseload

Students are required to enroll in a full courseload and complete all exams and assignments associated with the course regardless of the credit they wish to receive on the program. Withdrawal from a course or failure to take/complete a final will be regarded as an unauthorized reduction in courseload and a violation of the academic policy.

A full courseload for this program is: 17 credits

Students take three hours of classes per day during the pre-session course, and five hours a day during the regular term. Students who satisfactorily complete this courseload obtain a total of 17 credits (2 credits for the pre-session and 15 for the semester) and 5 courses at Georgetown.

The minimum passing grade for this program is: 5 out of 10 on the Spanish grading scale
 
 

Students are required to live in program housing.

Students have two housing options:
  • Homestay (includes three meals a day)
  • Student Residence
